Low Income Spay/Neuter Program Info
*** THIS PROGRAM WILL BEGIN ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS AGAIN ON MAY 1ST, 2016***
The Iowa County Humane Society will offer a low income spay/neuter program for household pets from May 1, 2016 until Nov. 1, 2016. ICHS will provide voucher discounts to go towards the spay/neuter cost of accepted applicants’ pets at participating local vet clinics. Owners will be responsible for the remainder of the vet fee.
Just one male and one female cat could produce 420,000 offspring in a 7 year period, and just one male and one female dog could produce 67,000 offspring in a 6 year period. The Iowa County Humane Society wants to help stop these cycles of overpopulation and is offering financial help for low income families in the area to spay or neuter their pets.
Spaying or neutering your animal will:
Sterilizing your pet is the single most important thing you can do to reduce the number of homeless animals in our community. All dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens adopted from the Iowa County Humane Society are spayed or neutered before going into their new homes. We encourage all pet owners to sterilize their companion animals and join in our efforts to ensure no animal is left without a home.
**Vouchers are valid for 60 days**
To apply for the program, fill out an application and either drop it off or mail it to ICHS. Applications will be kept confidential. The applicant will be notified once the application is approved, and will be provided with a list of the veterinary clinics that are participating in the program. It is then the applicant’s responsibility to make an appointment with a vet. Owner pays their fee portion at the visit. Rabies vaccinations are required, and flea treatment is required if needed (at cost of owner).
