Groucho
Groucho is a handsome, black and white male cat. He has been at ICHS since
May, 2006. He is quite ‘unremarkable’ – other than his ‘distinguishing’ mustache
(he was named after Groucho Marx). He is independent (after all he is a CAT).
Although he enjoys attention and likes to be brushed, he is not a lap cat.
He does get along well with other cats, but he is the ‘Alpha cat’ in
the large cat room. He and Rascal (one of the August ‘Cats of the Month’)
are best ‘buds’. (Hint – double the fun and take them both.) ☺

Myra
Myra is a beautiful tabby and white female cat. She has been at ICHS for some
time. However… Myra has been adopted twice and returned twice. She will ‘win
you over’, but she must be the only cat. She will not put up with any
competition. She will not tolerate other cats, dogs or children. Both prior ‘adoption
families’ had other cats and so both stays were short. But please… don’t
overlook Myra. She is a very nice cat. She simply is not a team player. If
you do stop by to visit Myra, she may get a bit cranky when it is time to be
placed back in her cage. But… can you blame her? Three years is a long
time in a cage. It really is time that Myra gets her ‘forever home’.
If you are planning to adopt a cat, please give Groucho and Myra your consideration. Groucho will fit right in. He is one of those cats who simply gets overlooked because there are so many cats to choose from. Myra is… Myra. She obviously will be harder to place but if you have no other pets or younger children, maybe, just maybe, Myra was meant to be YOURS!
Palmer
Palmer is a handsome male German Shorthair Pointer/Hound mix. He came to ICHS
in February of 2006. He arrived with another dog, named Poindexter. It is believed
that these two guys are probably brothers. Palmer is approximately 5 years
old. He is a very nice dog, and once again the question remains, “Why
hasn’t anyone ever shown an interest in him?” But no one has. Doesn’t
it make you wonder what he must think as people walk past him and pay no attention
to him!?!
On the one paw, Palmer loves attention and certainly wants his own family.
However, on the other paw, Palmer is very shy and submissive, so you may hear
a sigh of relief from him when no one does stop to give him a closer look.
Because of his shyness, Palmer really wants to please and he seems to feel
a sense of reassurance when he can be physically close to a human.
He has learned
to go on some agility equipment. It was hoped that by doing agility, Palmer
would build confidence with regards to both relationships and his environment.
Palmer walks very nicely on a leash and would be more than happy to cuddle
up with his person on the couch. He gets along well with other dogs, but he
is afraid of cats. He is not used to children as he has never been around them.
Palmer probably could get used to cats (if they would ignore him) as well as
older children.
If you are considering adopting a larger dog, Palmer may just be the dog you are looking for. He has fears to overcome so you will need to be patient with him. A relatively stable and quiet environment would be best for Palmer. Keep in mind that ICHS is basically all that Palmer has ever known so there needs to be some adjustment time for him to become acclimated to YOU and your home. And while we’re at it, Palmer’s brother, Poindexter, is also looking for that “forever home”. It would be GREAT if they could stay together, but not necessary. Perhaps they wouldn’t want to stay together, because if they did… they would have to share YOU!
