Adoption Process and Questionnaire

Thank you for your interest in adopting! A wonderful selection of feline friends and canine companions are waiting for a home like yours at the Iowa County Humane Society!  Please read below for the steps to meet our animals! 

1. Complete the adoption questionnaire below. This speeds up the process considerably! We recommend viewing the available animals on our website so we are able to answer any questions that you may have. You can see the adoptable cats by clicking here and the adoptable dogs by clicking here.

2. One of our staff members will call you to answer any immediate questions you may have and set up a meet and greet time to visit our adoptable animals. We do same day adoptions so you could take your family member home the same day you meet them!

3. A meet and greet appointment does not take an animal off of the adoption list. Because we do same day adoptions, if another adopter can make it in before you, it is possible the animal could be adopted prior to your meet and greet appointment. If you would like an animal held, you can put down a NON REFUNDABLE/NON TRANSFERABLE $100 deposit (dogs) $30 deposit (cats). 

Important information:

• You must be at least 18 years old to adopt any animal from the shelter. 

Our Adoption Fees:

• Dog: $250.00 and up
• Puppy: (under 8 months of age) $400.00 and up 
• Cat: $75.00
• Kitten: (under 8 months of age) $100.00
• 2 Kittens: (under 8 months of age) $150
• Deposit: If you would like an animal held until your meet and greet appointment, you can put down a deposit on that particular animal. This will guarantee it is not adopted out prior to your appointment. Without a deposit, if another adopter can meet the animal prior to your appointment, there is a chance they will not be available at your scheduled time. Deposits are non refundable and cannot be transferred to the adoption of another animal should you choose not to adopt the animal you put the deposit on.

• FIV & FELV Cats: $30.00

Adoption Cost includes:

• All dogs are vaccinated for distemper, and bordetella plus dewormed and heartworm tested prior to adoption. (Rabies is administered after 4 months of age)
• All cats are vaccinated for distemper, and dewormed prior to adoption. (Rabies is administered after 4 months of age)
• All animals are spayed/neutered prior to adoption. No exceptions.
• All animals are microchipped.
